A new album by Ian Anderson and the Carducci Quartet featuring the Classic songs of Jethro Tull, arranged and orchestrated by John O'Hara. Ian plays flute on most of the tracks and even sings a few lines here and there to provide his trademark sounds in the context of Classical Music traditions. Living In The Past, Aqualung, Locomotive Breath and Bungle In The Jungle are among the album track listing but appear, along with their fellow musical travelers, under more cryptic titles to differentiate them from the original recordings and arrangements. Ian says, “Perfect for lazy, long sunny afternoons, crisp winter nights, weddings and funerals.” He forgot to add, perfect also after a night of wild, abandoned sex or to celebrate the win of your favourite football team. Essentially, anytime music for sophisticated lovers of Classic Rock too afraid to wear their Tull T-shirt at the village barbecue.

The piano concerto and sonata by Hill—the ‘grand old man’ of Australian musical life at the time—are effectively the same work, the one an orchestral expansion of the other.

Stephen Heller - Variations for Piano - Biliana Tzinlikova (2016) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Сomposer: Stephen Heller (1813-1888)
Artist: Biliana Tzinlikova
Title: Heller - Variations for Piano
Genre: Classical
Label: © Paladino Music
Release Date: 2016
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 01:04:19
Recorded: 29 Sep 2015 - 1 Oct 2015, Schloss Weinberg, Kefermarkt, Austria

He shares the year of his birth with Verdi and Wagner. His pen-pal Robert Schumann called him a “witty talent, listed him amongst his “Davidsbündler”. Everybody learning the piano knows his “Melodic Etudes”, but who knows his character pieces, variations, dances, Lieder? Listen to them on Biliana Tzinlikovas pointy and intimate recording.
„Throughout the recital the pianist, Biliana Tzinlikova, proves herself up to the many challenges which this music asks of its performer: an ability to handle a variety of difficulties including rapid scales, arpeggios galore, octaves, and the like; a keen sense of detail work with regard to articulation, dynamics, and pacing; and an overall sense of the nature of Heller’s ideas on what poetry and music should offer: elegance, clarity, and beauty. These traits Tzinlikova brings in spades and the results show. So, for those interested in 19th-century fare outside of (or perhaps better, in addition to) the standard Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Mendelssohn, and Brahms, then Heller will surely be welcome in your collection!"

Heads Of State - Four in One (2017) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Artist: Heads of State
Title: Four in One
Genre: Jazz
Label: © Smoke Sessions Records
Release Date: 2017
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: ProStudioMasters
Duration: 01:12:22
Recorded live in New York at Sear Sound’s Studio C on a Sear-Avalon custom console at 96KHz/24bit and mixed to ½” analog tape using a Studer mastering deck.

Heads of State made their debut in 2015 with Search for Peace, recorded just months after they played together for the first time as a quartet at Smoke Jazz Club in New York City. Now, with another year of playing together under their collective belts (on top of the nearly five decades of relationships shared by the various members), they return with a magnificent new album Four in One.
The title comes from the lesser-known Thelonious Monk composition that opens the record, but it also succinctly captures the group’s growing spirit and identity that have been forged by an all-star band that was originally meant to be a one-time thing. “We’re trying as best as we know how to establish our own identity,” Willis explains, “and not sound like a jam session band.”
Given the impeccable taste and wealth of experience of all four members, there was very little chance of a “jam session” sensibility emerging in any case, but in the short time they’ve been working together the Heads of State have developed a lithe and lively group sound that’s equal parts burning and elegant, sharp-edged and gregarious.
While the bands’ first album was thrilling because it brought together four revered and masterful musicians in one place for the first time ever, Four in One may be even more exciting because it announces their intention to continue to collaborate and evolve together. Given what happens when these four join forces, that’s one enticing prospect.

In March 2017, Warner Classics marks the 10th anniversary of Mstislav Rostropovich’s death and 90 years since his birth with the deluxe collectors’ box set Cellist of the Century, comprising of selected remastered recordings.
The label was given unprecedented access to Rostropovich’s personal archive and worked closely with his daughters Elena and Olga. The range and variety of music in the box set is nothing short of extraordinary, embracing works by more than 60 composers, from iconic recordings to rarities. A number of the live performances originate from Russian tapes saved from destruction by resourceful Soviet archivists when Rostropovich was exiled from the USSR (1974-1990), and which came back to light in the late 1990s. Another highlight is the complete Bach Cello Suites, presented here in both audio and video versions. The collection also features an exclusive audio interview of Rostropovich recorded by personality Jon Tolansky.
Although Rostropovich died 10 years ago, on 27 April 2007, he remains a powerful presence on the world’s cultural scene through his legacy as the greatest cellist of his time, as a brave advocate of human rights, and as a man of proverbial generosity and charisma.
Special care has been taken to ensure the highest quality of sound reproduction. Wherever possible, the engineers of Art et Son studios have refined the sound, always with scrupulous respect to the original sources. The analogue recordings originating from EMI and Erato (CD1-15) have been remastered in 96 kHz from the original tapes. These are, therefore, the first recordings where the presence and definition of sound are heard in such detail.

Harry Hypolite - Louisiana Country Boy (2001/2016) High-Fidelity DSF Stereo DSD64/2.82MHz

Artist: Harry "Big Daddy" Hypolite
Title: Louisiana Country Boy
Genre: Blues, Louisiana Blues, Cajun
Label: © APO Records
Release Date: 2001/2016
Quality: DSF Stereo DSD64/2.82MHz
Source: AcousticSounds
Duration: 00:58:37
Recorded live February 28-29, 2000 at Blue Heaven Studios in Salina, Kansas. Mastered by Katsuhiko Naito

A longtime sideman of Zydeco King Clifton Chenier and later C.J. Chenier, Harry Big Daddy Hypolite steps into the spotlight for the first time with Louisiana Country Boy, his solo debut. If you share the tastes of APO Records' CEO Chad Kassem, you'll wonder, after hearing this recording, how this soulful voice and natural charisma have gone relatively unnoticed for so long.
Deep down in rural Louisiana, Hypolite, a self-confessed poor boy, has been honing his blues since he could talk - first in Creole French and then in English (both languages are represented on this release). The results are heartfelt confessions of real-life hard times.
"Nobody gave me a chance before," Hypolite said. "But I said, 'I'm going to show 'em what I can do.' For me, this comes from deep in my soul. I want to play the blues, and I want to tell people about my Creole French heritage."
These are deep, unpolished, gravely blues. In short, this is the real stuff - the blues of undiluted emotion. Louisiana Country Boy is also full of zydeco - a genre Hypolite said is not always played the way masters like Clifton Chenier intended it to be.
"Zydeco is simple music," he said. "Guys who try to play jazz and put big chords in zydeco make it hard on themselves. You just need to know how to phrase it right, and it has to have a feeling and a meaning to it."
Feeling and meaning - those are attributes Big Daddy is never short on. Even in the simplest of conversations, Hypolite wears his heart on his sleeve. If he doesn't win you over with his smile, he'll floor you with his laugh.
Hypolite has bottled pure emotion by writing and singing autobiographical songs that reach all the way back to his childhood. He's been waiting for this moment for so long, played it over in his head so many times, that almost every song on this recording was done in one take, with no lyric sheets. In accordance with an APO Records tradition, the small mistakes were overlooked if the feeling captured could not be reproduced. At a time when many authentic blues artists are in the twilight of their careers, it's the dawn of Harry Hypolite's time in the sun. "This is like a dream for me," he said. "I'm proud of this record."

Christoph Graupner - "Chalumeaux" - Concertos, Ouvertures & Sonatas - Ars Antiqua Austria, Gunar Letzbor (2015) High-Fidelity DSF Stereo DSD64/2.82MHz

Recorded: Stift St. Florian bei Linz an der Donau, 10-13 November 2011

If people are innocent of the name of Christoph Graupner in Vienna or anywhere else in Austria this should be neither a surprise nor anything to be ashamed of, because the sphere of influence of this contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach and Johann Joseph Fux was in faraway Darmstadt, a small residence capital of the landgrave in Hesse about twenty miles south of Frankfurt. What is more, Graupner never visited Vienna in his life. Graupner’s employer Ernst Ludwig was an opera enthusiast; after becoming acquainted with the young harpsichordist and composer Graupner – who had received his musical education in Leipzig – some time in the period from autumn 1706 and 1708 at the Hamburg Gänsemarkt Opera House, Ernst Ludwig appointed him Kapellmeister in Darmstadt in 1709. The court household there was that of a comparatively small landgrave, Protestant in inclination – one of the numerous German principalities in the German Lands. But in his ambition for prestige and luxurious pastimes – particularly hunting – the Darmstadt regent by no means took second place even to the pre-eminent courts. Thus in 1723, he secured Graupner’s presence in Darmstadt for life by a generous rise in salary, which made the court Kapellmeister the best paid orchestra director of his time and simultaneously stopped Graupner from taking off to Leipzig, where he had been offered the post of Thomaskantor, the choirmaster of St Thomas’s. Another thirty-seven years were to pass in the service of the Darmstadt landgrave before Graupner eventually died in 1760; he had gone blind, thus in the last six years of his life could no longer actively direct the fortunes of the orchestra.
